Key Highlights

  • Extensive collection of rocks, minerals, and fossils
  • Integrated geological and geophysical training facilities
  • Support for field-based and laboratory-based research activities
  • Facilities for UG & PG projects, dissertations, and research studies

Teaching & Analytical Facilities

Rock & Mineral Identification

The laboratory houses a diverse collection of megascopic rock and mineral specimens, along with microscopes, thin sections, and teaching slides for petrographic studies and mineral identification.

Microscopy

Advanced polarizing microscopes and digital imaging systems facilitate detailed microstructural analysis of rocks, minerals, and geological materials.

Fossil Studies

A representative collection of fossils is available for paleontological training, fossil identification, classification, and evolutionary studies.

Sedimentology Tools

The laboratory is equipped with sieve shakers and sediment analysis kits for grain-size distribution studies and granulometric characterization of sediments.

Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT)

ERT facilities support subsurface investigations for groundwater exploration, environmental assessments, and geotechnical studies through electrical resistivity mapping.

Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR)

Ground Penetrating Radar systems provide high-resolution near-surface imaging for site characterization, utility mapping, and shallow subsurface investigations.

Academic & Research Applications

  • Petrology & Mineralogy: Rock and mineral identification, petrographic investigations, and mineral characterization.
  • Palaeontology: Fossil classification, evolutionary studies, and paleoenvironmental interpretation.
  • Sedimentology: Grain-size analysis, sediment characterization, and depositional environment studies.
  • Applied Geophysics: Subsurface exploration using Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR).
  • Project Support: Laboratory and field support for UG & PG dissertations, project work, and interdisciplinary research activities.
