M.Sc in Applied Geology

Advanced Learning in Earth Sciences & Exploration

M.Sc in Applied Geology

The M.Sc. program in Applied Geology, orchestrated by the Department of Petroleum Engineering at the Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE), Visakhapatnam, is an intellectually rigorous and research-intensive postgraduate initiative that delves into the intricate geological processes underpinning the exploration and sustainable exploitation of Earth’s subsurface resources. This avant-garde curriculum seamlessly integrates advanced theoretical constructs with state-of-the-art geospatial technologies, sedimentological modeling, structural interpretation, and basin analysis, thereby equipping scholars with a profound comprehension of both conventional and unconventional energy reservoirs. Augmented by interdisciplinary collaboration, cutting-edge laboratory facilities, and strategic engagement with leading geoscience entities, the program cultivates a cadre of adept geoscientists poised to make transformative contributions to the fields of petroleum geology, environmental geoscience, and earth resource management on a global scale.

Program Goals

The goal of the 2-year M.Sc. in Applied Geology program is to produce highly skilled geologists with specialized knowledge on Mineral Exploration, Sub-surface modelling, Fossil fuel and Ground water exploration, Drilling, estimation of resources and site investigation.

  • Develop Advanced Geological Expertise
o provide students with a strong foundation in geological sciences and hands-on training in applied aspects such as mineral exploration, hydrogeology, geotechnical investigations, and environmental geology.
  • Prepare Industry- and Research-Ready Graduates
To equip students with analytical, technical, and research skills necessary for careers in geoscience industries, government organizations, and academic/research institutions.
