The Micro-Computed Tomography (Micro-CT) Imaging Laboratory at IIPE is a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to high-resolution, non-destructive 3D imaging of the internal microstructure of geological, energy, and engineering materials. This advanced imaging technique provides detailed insights into porosity, pore connectivity, grain structure, and fractures, critical for reservoir characterization, rock-fluid interaction studies, material science, and geomechanical research.

The Zeiss XRadia Context is an industry-leading large-sample 3D X-ray microscope that bridges the gap between high-throughput scanning and high- resolution imaging. It enables researchers to visualize internal structures without destroying the specimen, offering insights into porosity, fractures, grain structures, and fluid pathways at micron-scale precision.
The facility is actively utilized by researchers at IIPE and is open to academic and industrial collaborations. Customized scanning protocols, data analysis support, and training sessions are available upon request. We welcome interdisciplinary projects across geosciences, petroleum engineering, environmental engineering, and materials research.
The Micro-CT Lab is open to IIPE faculty, students, and external users. Access is granted through a formal application process. For usage charges, sample preparation guidelines, or collaboration inquiries, please contact the lab coordinator.
